چکیده
materials and methods the segmentation process is evaluated using four different clustering methods with different number of clusters where some dti scalar indices for 10 human brains are processed. results the aim was to produce results with less segmentation error and a lower computational cost while attempting to minimizing boundary overlapping and minimizing the effect of artifacts due to macroscale scanning. conclusion the volume ratios of the best produced outputs with respect to the total brain size are 16.7% ± 3.53% for csf, 35.05% ± 1.13% for wm, and 48.2% ± 2.88% for gm. background brain segmentation from diffusion tensor imaging (dti) into white matter (wm), gray matter (gm), and cerebrospinal fluid (csf) with acceptable results is subjected to many factors. objectives the most important issue in brain segmentation from dti images is the selection of suitable scalar indices that best describe the required tissue in the images. specifying suitable clustering method and suitable number of clusters of the selected method are other factors which affects the segmentation process significantly.

متن کاملThe Benefits and implementations of Diffusion tensor imaging and Neural Fiber Tractography in Brain Surgery
Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...
متن کاملDiffusion Tensor Imaging to Study Brain Connectivity
Introduction MRI has been a powerful tool to map anatomy and function of human brains. To assign functions of the cortex, fMRI has been playing important roles. Classically, anatomy – function correlation studies had relied on postmortem examination of patients with localized lesions. Now we have a tool to non-invasively investigate functional centers of the brain. Compared to the cortical mapp...
متن کاملDiffusion-Weighted Imaging and Diffusion Tensor Imaging
Assessment of the integrity of the articular cartilage is considered key for the early diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA). Diffusion-weighted imaging and diffusion tensor imaging have potential as biomarkers for cartilage composition and structure. The value of diffusion to detect compositional and structural changes in the cartilage matrix has been shown in ex vivo experiments for several years....
متن کاملEffects of number of diffusion gradient directions on derived diffusion tensor imaging indices in human brain.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The effects of a number of diffusion-encoding gradient directions (NDGD) on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) indices have been studied previously with theoretic analysis and numeric simulations. In this study, we made in vivo measurements in the human brain to compare different clinical scan protocols and to evaluate their effects on the calculated DTI indices. METHODS Fi...
متن کاملPropagation Framework for Diffusion Tensor Imaging via Diffusion Tensor Error Propagation Framework for Diffusion Tensor Imaging via Diffusion Tensor Representations
This preprint is made available because the published work cited below had several infelicities due to production error, i.e., awkward layout of equations and font styles. The conversion from the Words document here to IEEE TMI format was a mess. Abstract An analytical framework of error propagation for diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is presented. Using this framework, any uncertainty of intere...
